In December 2006 Theresa Postan started to draft the idea that it was time for a change in business direction.
After many years as an independent Media Buyer and Television Executive Producer, it was not hard to see that the Television industry was in severe trouble. Proliferation of medias such as; free airwaves, cable, satellite, over population of television stations, channels and the internet weakened the buying power of media.
The advertising message got diluted in an ocean of media choices, and added to the equation billboards, all the print media, radio A.M., F.M., satellite radio XM, pamphlets, mailers, specialty advertising, direct marketing and the latest neuro-marketing (where they study the impulse buying of individuals thru medical tools and techniques.) Will doctors become the new advertising executives?
Getting "results" for media clients in a weak economy was not easy. Television stations owners instead of lowering rates were increasing them, more money was required to advertisers to get less results. Media competition came to a boiling point and it was not fun nor rewarding to do more of the same.
Not only advertising didn't work like in the 80's and 90's but the technological brutal changes of High Definition TV put Theresa on the position to either invest a bulk of money in new HDTV technology with a low chance for success or search for a new endeavor.
Albert Einstein once said, "The definition of insanity is doing the same things and expecting a different outcome" so true to this statement on January 2007 Theresa decided to take a leap of faith.
Armed with 1 laptop, a cell phone, her business knowledge, years of experience in; small business development, bookkeeping, media buying, television production, marketing, advertising, oil and gas, real estate, industrial technology, and motherhood of three children, she was set to create a bookkeeping firm that was different... And that's how Bookkeepers of Houston was born.
A total professional turn key change was the right move. Starting something fresh and new was (and still is) extremely exciting, but the best part was when success started to strike month after month.
As clients lined up, Theresa started to apply all her talents to deliver her promise. Bring every client to financial control so they could concentrate on their business instead of the books. From detecting losses that could be avoided, re-organizing payments, invoicing, timely payments, clients started to get the upper hand of their money and time.
Theresa was having a ball! She enjoyed working with QuickBooks, she felt great using all her talents but what she loved best was helping people get the financial control needed for their business operations to succeed and flourish.
As Bookkeepers of Houston grew thru 2007, Theresa needed help, so Whitney Postan joined "mom" to provide her all the peripheral support needed to expedite and keep constant order for all clients. Top line computers and new equipment started to fill tables.
In Summer of 2007 after a healthy growing pace, Theresa decided it was time to expand operations so 2007-2008 became the marketing expansion to let the world know that Bookkeepers of Houston existed.
Several clients were so impressed with Theresa's performance they referred friends out of state, such as California and Louisiana. This expansion to bookkeeping on line via the internet was the detonator for this website that caters to YOU! (our next client!)
IIn September 2008, Theresa took Bookkeepers of Houston to the next level. International bookkeeping online, offered via www.americanbookkeeper.com - www.bookkeepersofamerica.com - & - www.americanbookkeeper.com - for U.S. citizens abroad.
So now Americans who are living outside of the United States of America can work with Theresa via on-line.

Whitney Ellerie Postan is the Executive Assistant to Bookkeepers of America.
She came to the company at the summer of 2007. A graduate from Westside High School, she's currently enrolled in her second year at Houston Community College ( HCC ) studying business with an emphasis in accounting. Recently, Whitney became a Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor - 2009 - (Intuit)
Her past working experience was at H.E.B. supermarkets as a cash register checker for over one year. She also worked at Texas Children's Hospital in Developmental Pediatrics as a summer internship in the Hospital Administration Department.
